SONJA

My name is Sonja and I started tap dancing in Germany when I was 10 years old. My teacher was a tap dancer from the US and we trained from Broadway style to jazz tap different techniques. My group trained once a week in the beginning, then twice, then 3 times a week and we performed on different stages on weekends for many years. I started teaching in the German tap school and opened my own tap-dancing school in Windhoek shortly after I moved to Namibia. Tap dancing is my passion, it is not my main profession. Tap for me is all about fun, no competition. It is not only an effective way to exercise, it is also a fantastic brain training, as you learn to use your feet as an instrument. There is no age limit for tap dancing, as we can adjust the technics we learn. You don’t need any dance experience for starting tap dancing, everyone has to learn the new way of walking, balancing, moving, dancing.
